The Academy of Music, opened in 1857 on Broad Street, is the oldest opera house in the United States still used for its original purpose. The roughly 2,900-seat hall hosts Opera Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Ballet, Broadway tours, and concerts. It is a National Historic Landmark and part of Philadelphia's Avenue of the Arts.
